Attending the Belgrade basketball derby between KK Partizan and KK Crvena zvezda was one of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve had in Serbia.
As a guest of Telegraf.rs, I had the opportunity to witness what many describe as one of the most intense sporting rivalries in Europe.
Known as the “Eternal Derby,” this matchup is more than just a game — it’s a cultural phenomenon deeply rooted in Belgrade’s identity.
From the moment I entered the arena, the energy was electric. Fans filled the stands, chanting, waving flags, and creating an atmosphere that felt larger than life.
It was immediately clear that this wasn’t just about basketball — it was about pride, history, and community.
Growing up in the United States, I’ve experienced passionate sports culture, from the Boston Celtics to major league games, but this was on another level entirely.
The intensity, the coordination of the fans, and the emotional connection to the teams made this experience truly unique.
Watching the game unfold between two of Serbia’s most successful and widely supported clubs added another layer of significance.
Every moment felt heightened, every play, every score, every reaction from the crowd.
Beyond the game itself, what stood out most was how this derby brings together an entire city, reflecting both its unity and its rivalries.
